Family and Community Engagement

Nurturing Children & Families
At License to Freedom, we believe strong families and connected communities are essential to healing, belonging, and long-term well-being. Our Family and Community Engagement programs create safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive spaces where individuals and families can build relationships, strengthen support systems, celebrate culture, and access opportunities for personal growth and community connection.
Through social gatherings, wellness activities, cultural programs, mentorship, arts and crafts, educational workshops, and community discussions, we help reduce isolation, promote mental wellness, and empower individuals of all ages to actively participate in and contribute to their communities.
Literacy & Language Empowerment
Our literacy and language programs support refugees and immigrants of all ages, from infants and young children to adults and seniors, by helping individuals strengthen reading, writing, communication, and language skills in both English and their native languages. Through culturally responsive and family-centered learning opportunities, we help participants improve school readiness, educational achievement, workplace communication, civic participation, and social connection while also preserving cultural identity and heritage languages.
Programs may include early childhood literacy activities, bilingual learning support, ESL instruction, tutoring, conversation groups, digital literacy, family reading initiatives, and senior engagement opportunities designed to reduce isolation and build confidence. By supporting multilingual learning and lifelong education, we empower individuals and families to thrive across generations while honoring the languages and cultures that shape their identities.
Early Childhood
License to Freedom’s early childhood program focuses on supporting the mental, emotional, and developmental well-being of refugee children (ages 0-5) and their parents. This trauma-informed initiative includes weekly parenting classes on child development, brain health, and positive family environments, along with weekly child development activities such as sensory play, reading time and parent-child bonding sessions.
The program also emphasizes early intervention and creating a positive perception of mental health within the community. Parents participate in workshops on stress management, emotional regulation, and positive parenting, fostering strong family dynamics. Additionally, the program addresses prenatal and maternal health to support mental well-being during pregnancy and early motherhood.
Fatherhood Program
License to Freedom’s Fatherhood program addresses a critical gap in services for refugee and immigrant men, focusing on parenting, mental health, and adjusting to life in the United States.
The program offers a safe, supportive space for men to share their experiences, discuss challenges, and develop healthier relationships with their children and spouses.
Through weekly sessions, the program encourages emotional expression, open communication, and mental well-being, areas often stigmatized in many cultures. By tackling these issues directly, the program promotes stronger families and helps reduce the stigma around seeking mental health support.
Women's Circle
Our Women’s Circle provides a welcoming and supportive space where women can connect, heal, learn, and build meaningful relationships within their community. Designed to reduce isolation and promote emotional well-being, the program brings together women from diverse cultural backgrounds through arts and crafts, sewing and creative expression, wellness activities, social gatherings, and guided group discussions.
The Women’s Circle encourages participants to share experiences, strengthen confidence, build friendships, and support one another in a safe and culturally responsive environment. Activities promote mental wellness, stress reduction, skill-building, creativity, and community connection while empowering women to preserve cultural traditions, explore new opportunities, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
Through conversation, creativity, and collective support, the program helps foster resilience, leadership, healing, and long-term community engagement among women and families.
