Mental Health
Free, Accessible Therapy for Lasting Healing
For more than a decade, License to Freedom has offered free, accessible mental health care tailored to the unique experiences of refugees and immigrants. Our program is built on the belief that healing requires both professional expertise and cultural understanding.
Our licensed clinical therapists and therapist trainees provide individual counseling, group therapy, and in-home sessions for those who face transportation barriers. By integrating culturally aligned evidence-based models such as solution-focused therapy (SFT) and narrative therapy along with mindfulness practices, we help clients recognize and reframe harmful thought patterns, reduce anxiety and depression, and build skills for emotional regulation and resilience.

What sets our program apart is our team. Many of our therapists are refugees, immigrants, or children of immigrants themselves, fluent in multiple languages and deeply connected to the cultures we serve. We also have Community Specialists, trusted peers from refugee communities, ensure that every client receives care that is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and grounded in compassion.
We specialize in supporting survivors of domestic violence, as well as youth and families coping with trauma, stress, and displacement. By blending clinical therapy with community-based support, we address the mental, emotional, and social needs of our clients, helping them move from crisis toward long-term healing and well-being.
