Youth Programs
Mentorship
Our tutoring and mentoring program provides space for our students to receive academic support and guidance on colleges and careers. We provide field trips to local colleges and universities for students to learn about college lifestyle, provide them guidance on career and what to expect.
Our LTF youth share their experiences in the Youth Mentorship Program.
Mental Health
Youths are the future of our community and our country. At License to Freedom, we provide youths a healthy space for them to learn, heal and grow. Our services encompass mental health, advocacy, sports and healthy lifestyle education, academic enrichment and cultural activities.
In addition, our therapists work with the schools to provide on-site counseling for refugee youths and provide training to school staff on how to work with refugees who experience trauma and mental health challenges. Our team works with the schools to recommend policy changes to make the school environment safer and inclusive for the refugee youths. We provide training on xenophobia to schools.
Our therapists have been collaborating with local schools to address these issues through individual/group counseling and cultural sensitivity training. These initiatives aim to educate students and staff about the negative effects of xenophobia and promote a culture of inclusivity and respect. Additionally, we have held training sessions at schools to raise awareness and provide best practices for working with families from the Middle East.
Healthy Lifestyle
We educate our youths on healthy lifestyles such as: eating healthy, exploring local parks and learning about the benefits of nature and engaging in our sports teams such as our volleyball team and soccer teams. Through our sports program, we create activities to build self-esteem with our youths and work with residents of San Diego to support our youth sports to break discrimination and xenophobia.
Cultural Programs
Our culture program focuses on art, music, dance and literature to remind youths of their heritage and be grounded while exploring their new life in the United States. It’s important to maintain their cultural identity with activities that bring together people in the communities and bring positive perspectives of themselves. Some of our recent arts and cultural programs provided opportunities for youths to learn about substance use prevention and education through art.
Their Voices Matter
Our License to Freedom youth share their feedback and experiences with our programs. We consider their input vital for the continued integrity and lifespans of our different programs.
